Founded in March 2000, Research Center of University Development, HUST is a Hubei Provincial Key Research Base in Humanities and Social Sciences. Professor Liu Xianjun, Director of Research Center of University Development, HUST, is the President of Society of Research of Universities of China Association of Higher Education. Research Center of University Development, HUST has robust research platform, high-level faculty of full-time and part-time teachers, and research interests of University Development & Strategic Planning, Students Learning & Development, Faculty Engagement & Development, and Design & Analysis of University Data System etc.
After construction for over ten years since its foundation, Research Center of University Development, HUST has made great achievements and guided the development direction of university research in
China
. So far, it has published more than 20 academic works, published over 200 papers on CSSCI source journals, of which 8 papers have been reprinted in full text on Xinhua Digest; it has undertaken more than 30 research projects, granted over 10 awards higher than provincial/ministerial levels for science and technology progress, and 4 awards higher than provincial/ministerial levels for teaching achievements; since 2003, it has regularly held academic seminars on university research, including annual domestic seminars and biennial international seminars. So far, it has successfully held 5 international conferences, 8 domestic conferences and 4 international workshops; Research Center of University Development, HUST focuses on construction of university research case base, regularly publishes special edition of university research case, to make available a platform that allows communications and publications by university researchers in China; teachers of Research Center of University Development, HUST have been invited to deliver academic reports and management consultancy for over 400 universities, and helped over 40 universities in their strategic planning, all highly praised by the partners; Research Center of University Development, HUST has sent visiting and exchange scholars to countries such as USA, UK, Germany, France, Japan and Australia etc, engaged many American scholars as part-time professors, and organized international workshops and cultivated master’s candidates in cooperation with Association for Institutional Research; in Oct 2012, Center for International Cooperative Research of Sino-US Universities subordinated to Research Center of University Development, HUST was set up, which will cooperate with Association for Institutional Research, University of California and Florida State University etc, to introduce their institutional research curricula, authorize translation and publication of works, and share research data.

Improve the level of China information-based and scientific management of universities, provide decision-making consulting for national reform of higher education; build it into a national-level key research base of humanities and social sciences, and hold important position and good reputation in international field of institutional research.
