Hong SHEN is a full professor (since 1999) and the 2nd rank professor (among 14 ranks without the 1st rank in social sciences in China), a supervisor (since 2000) of doctoral students in Higher Education and of Economics of Education, a Special Employed Huazhong Scholar, in Huazhong University of Science & Technology (HUST, one of top 985 universities), Wuhan Hubei Province. She is the Director of Hubei Provincial Center for Regional Higher Education Research, an elected Vice President of National Association and the President of Hubei Provincial Association of Economics of Education. She is a member of several editorial boards of international and domestic journals.
Hong Shen received her Ph.D in Management Engineering (1997), Master in Higher Education Management (1991), and Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering (1982) from HUST. She has been rewarded the Special Government Allowances of the State Council of China in 2004, and she was a Fulbright Scholar at PSU (Pennsylvania) and UB (Buffalo NY) from Aug. 2002 to Aug. 2003, a visiting scholar at UB from Aug. 1996 to Aug. 1997, three months at Hiroshima University Japan in 2000, 10 days at University of Hong Kong in 2001 and 7 days at AAAS in Washington D.C. in 2004. She has been China Leading Consultant on Asian Student Loans Schemes Study for UNESCO-Bangkok in 2001-2003. She was a Vice Dean of Graduate School of Education in HUST from 2000-2013.
Hong Shen has been granted over 50 research projects from UNESCO and other international institutions, and from NSF, MOE, NDB(Bank) and various national institutions of China, with 10 millions of RMB of research fund in total. She has been rewarded 8 scientific research awards and 6 doctoral dissertations supervision awards from the ministerial/ provincial level. She has published 300 articles (100 of which are as the first author) and 11 books both in Chinese and English, and has been editing 7 book-series. She has supervised 73 doctors and 62 masters graduated since 1997. She is currently the supervisor of 22 doctoral and 4 master students. She is teaching 4 classes in Financing Higher Education, Comparative Higher Education Management (in English), Reform and Development of International Education, Reform and Development of Chinese Education (in English to overseas PhD students), and parts of Research Methodology.
Research concentrations of Hong Shen are mainly in Undergraduates’ Higher Edu. Added-Value, Faculty Development & Academic Profession, Higher Edu. Economics and Finance, Research and World-Class University. She has been China-Mainland PIs of CAP (2004-2014) and APIKS (2014-) with other 20+ countries, of EU MORE-II (2012), of AIP with other 8 countries (2013), and of UNESCO-BKK project on Student Loan Schemes in Asia with other 4 countries (2001-03). She has been invited to about 30 countries as a speaker or conference presenter. She has been a very active international scholar in Higher Edu. field in two decades.
